At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, we strive to be a school community that promotes excellence in a learning environment based on Gospel values. Our mission is to provide a quality Catholic school enabling each person to reach full potential in the light of our school motto, 'Truth and light'.
The Catholic culture at St Joseph’s has been built on the strong foundations of the Sisters of St Joseph. The staff, students and parents, together with the parish and wider community, enjoy numerous occasions to share, work and celebrate. The spiritual and prayer life of the St Joseph’s school family is sustained through frequent liturgical celebrations as a grade, stage or whole school.
The school supports the parish sacramental programs of Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation, which culminate in their respective parish-based celebrations. These sacramental celebrations are a highlight in the liturgical life of the school and parish. Retreat days for students in Year 6 and Year 3 are held prior to them receiving their sacraments.
The school is a place of prayer and worship, and liturgy has a central place in the life of the school.
Each day, students assemble in the morning to begin the day with the school prayer. This brings the school community into the awareness of the presence of God and the action of the Holy Spirit in learning and play. Each week a school assembly is held and begins with prayer.
Throughout the year students participate in a number of celebrations. These include liturgical celebrations during the seasons of Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas, as well as the Feasts of Mary MacKillop and St Joseph. Catholic Schools Week, Anzac Day and Remembrance Day are also celebrated.
Students attend Masses each term as a whole school. Each Friday, a class attends the parish Mass. Classes from Year 3-6 also attend the Sacrament of Reconciliation on a regular basis.
Year 6 students gather annually with Bishop Brian Mascord and with a number of other diocesan Catholic primary school Year 6 students, teachers and clergy to celebrate a special Mass following the Sacrament of Confirmation. Read more here.
Students have the opportunity to be involved in our school choir. We have a K-2 Choir and a Year 3-6 Choir. These choirs lead our singing during school-based and parish-based liturgies and Masses.
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Bulli enjoys a very close relationship with our parish.
Our parish priest, Father Patrick Vaughan, has a strong presence in the school and especially during the sacramental programs.
Our school celebrates Mass and other liturgies on a regular basis, and a children’s liturgy is celebrated every Sunday at 8:30am Mass.
